Slap Shot Master System
Slap Shot is an ice hockey game for the Sega Master System, developed by Sanritsu and released in 1990. It was known for its arcade-style controls, which made it accessible to many players.
Gameplay features
- Perspective: The game features a horizontal, side-scrolling rink for general play. When a player takes a shot on goal, the perspective shifts to a close-up, 3D one-on-one view.
- Controls: Players can shoot and pass, with the controls designed to be easy to pick up and play. On defence, the goalie is controlled with the D-pad and is separate from controlling an on-ice player, which can be challenging to manage simultaneously.
- Fights: Random fights can occur during a game when players check each other. The fight is a button-mashing sequence, and the loser serves a two-minute penalty, leaving their team shorthanded.
- Game modes: The game offers two primary modes:
- Exhibition: A single match for one or two players.
- Tournament: A single-player series of three games against randomly selected teams. The player is eliminated after a loss.
- Teams: The game has 24 teams divided into three leagues (Pools A, B, and C) with different skill levels. Teams in the same league are ranked according to their Power, Speed, and Balance.
