Description
Alien 3 Game Gear
Released in 1993, Alien 3 for the Sega Game Gear is a side-scrolling run-and-gun game based on the film of the same name. Developed by Probe Software and published by Arena Entertainment, it is a port of the Master System version of the game. The gameplay and plot differ significantly from the movie, featuring protagonist Ellen Ripley with an arsenal of weapons battling numerous Xenomorphs within the Fiorina “Fury” 161 prison colony.
Gameplay features
- Mission-based progression: Players control Ripley, navigating the maze-like prison to complete objectives such as rescuing prisoners or sealing off areas.
- Time limit: Each level must be completed within a time limit, which adds to the difficulty.
- Motion tracker: A motion tracker warns of nearby enemies, but it runs on battery and must be replenished with pickups.
- Diverse arsenal: Unlike the film, Ripley is equipped with a pulse rifle, flamethrower, and grenades.
- Various actions: The gameplay allows for jumping, shooting, climbing ladders, crawling through tunnels, opening doors, and using elevators.
- Challenging design: The game is known for its high difficulty, maze-like levels, and lack of continues, although a level-select code exists.
