Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Mega Drive
Released in 1994, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a classic platform game for the Sega Mega Drive that introduced the character Knuckles the Echidna. The game can be played on its own, but it was originally designed to be a single, complete game when combined with its sequel, Sonic & Knuckles, using “lock-on technology”. The original cartridge is still available on retro gaming and second-hand marketplace sites.
Features and gameplay
- Characters: Play as Sonic or Tails to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds from Dr. Robotnik, who has crashed his space station, the Death Egg, on Angel Island. Knuckles the Echidna is also introduced as an opponent to Sonic.
- New moves: The game adds new interactive powers, such as Tails’ ability to carry Sonic while flying. Players can also acquire special elemental shields with different abilities.
- Save system: For the first time in the series, Sonic 3 includes a save feature, allowing players to save their progress across the game’s large zones.
- Multiplayer: A competitive multiplayer mode lets two players race through five exclusive levels.
- Special stages: Players can access 3D special stages by finding giant rings hidden in the levels. Collecting blue spheres in these stages earns the player Chaos Emeralds.
