Description
Wii Play
Wii Play is a 2006 party video game for the Nintendo Wii, featuring a compilation of nine minigames designed to showcase the capabilities of the Wii Remote controller. The game was notably bundled with a Wii Remote, with its low price making it a popular choice for families and a major commercial success. The game can be played in single-player or local two-player modes.
Included minigames
The game contains nine mini-games that are unlocked in succession after playing each one for the first time.

- Shooting Range: A game reminiscent of the NES title Duck Hunt that uses the Wii Remote’s infrared pointer. Players shoot targets, balloons, clay discs, and UFOs, with a multiplayer mode for a high-score competition.
- Find Mii: Players must locate specific Miis in a crowd based on given criteria, such as finding two identical characters.
- Table Tennis: A classic table tennis game where you use the Wii Remote like a paddle to hit the ball back and forth against an opponent.
- Pose Mii: A puzzle game that requires players to twist and turn their Mii to match silhouettes falling inside bubbles.
- Laser Hockey: A futuristic version of air hockey or pong, where players use the Wii Remote to control a paddle and deflect a laser puck into the opponent’s goal.
- Billiards: A simplified game of nine-ball pool that lets players use the Wii Remote as a cue stick.
- Fishing: Players use the Wii Remote to cast a fishing line and reel in various types of fish within a time limit.
- Charge!: A cow-racing game where players hold the Wii Remote sideways like reins and tilt it to steer, jumping hurdles and knocking over scarecrows for points.
- Tanks!: A top-down action game where players drive a tank, shooting enemy tanks and placing land mines. This is the only minigame that can be played using the Nunchuk accessory.
Gameplay features
- Uses Mii avatars: Players can create their own custom Mii characters in the Wii’s Mii Channel to represent them in the game.
- Local multiplayer: Most games can be played with two players locally, allowing for competitive and cooperative gameplay. The original package came with an extra Wii Remote to facilitate multiplayer.
- No online play: The online features for Wii games, including leaderboards, were discontinued in May 2014.
- Controller demonstration: Each minigame is designed to showcase the unique motion-sensing and pointer capabilities of the Wii Remote.
Sequel
Wii Play: Motion, a sequel to the original game, was released in 2011. It was bundled with a Wii Remote Plus, which includes a built-in Wii MotionPlus accessory for more precise motion controls.

Another great retro game available at Escapist Gamer – Super Smash Bros Brawl (Nintendo Wii)
