Description

Transbot Master System

TransBot is a side-scrolling shoot ’em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Master System, first released in 1985. It is known as Astro Flash in Japan and Nuclear Creature in Brazil.
Gameplay and Features
  • Transforming Protagonist: The player pilots a transforming aircraft called the CA-214, which can change into a larger robot form.
  • Weapon System: The player starts with a basic weapon and can collect power-ups from “Arm Carrier” trucks to cycle through six different weapons, including a beam, a three-way shot, and a powerful “sword fire”. The weapon chosen determines whether the character is in ship or robot form.
  • Limited Weapons: Powered-up weapons have limited energy, indicated by an “Arm” meter. Once depleted, the player reverts to the default basic weapon.
  • Structure: The game features two main levels which loop with increased difficulty upon completion. To advance from the first section to the underground base (where the boss Dalaus is), the player must obtain a specific weapon (the “Cannon” or “D” weapon) to destroy particular cross-shaped enemies (Hiluns).
  • Plot: The story is set after a nuclear war, where a leftover computer named DALAUS has started an empire, and the CA-214 is the only force that can stop it.
Release and Legacy
  • TransBot was one of the early titles for the Master System and was originally released on the smaller Sega Card format, though it later received a cartridge release in various regions.
  • It was inspired by the Transformers franchise and is considered a spiritual sequel to the SG-1000 game Orguss.
  • An unofficial fan remake with HD graphics and new levels was created in 2018 by Kristian Hawkinson.
