Description
Putt And Putter Manual Game Gear
Putt and Putter is a miniature golf game for the Sega Game Gear, originally released in 1991. The original instruction manual details gameplay, controls, and features. Digital versions of the manual are available online, along with information on how to play the game.
Gameplay and instructions
Putt & Putter for the Game Gear features 18 holes that increase in difficulty and include various obstacles, such as sand traps, moving platforms, and pinball-style bumpers.
Single player mode
- Starting up: The Game Gear system must be set up correctly and the Putt & Putter cartridge must be properly inserted while the power is off. Turn the power on to start.
- Placing the ball: At the start of each hole, use the D-pad to position the ball on the tee mat. Press Button 2 to place the ball.
- Taking a shot:
- Press Button 2 to make the directional marker and power meter appear.
- Use the D-pad to rotate the directional marker and aim your shot. The marker shows the trajectory of the shot, including how it will rebound off the edges of the course.
- Press Button 2 again when the power meter reaches the desired level. The meter cycles from empty to full, indicating the lowest and highest possible putting power.
- Viewing the course: Before a shot, press the D-pad to change your view and survey the entire hole.
- Advancing: The 18 holes are split into three sets of six. You must finish each set at or under par to proceed.
- Saving progress: A password appears after every third hole to allow you to continue the game later.
- Checking results: During gameplay, you can check the results for each hole by pressing the START button.
Two-player mode
- Requirements: Two Game Gear systems connected by a Gear-to-Gear cable are required for this mode.
- Matches: Matches can be 3, 5, 7, or 18 holes long.
- Gameplay:
- Both players’ balls are on the course simultaneously, with players alternating strokes.
- The player who finishes a hole in the fewest strokes wins that hole. After all holes are completed, the player with the most holes won is the winner.
- One ball can hit the other without a penalty, which adds a strategic element to the multiplayer game.
