Description
Con Quest C64
Con Quest is a flick-screen arcade puzzle/adventure game released for the Commodore 64 (C64) in 1987. Originally designed by Derek Brewster for the ZX Spectrum, it was converted to the C64 by Tranz-Form and published by Mastertronic under their MAD (Mastertronic Added Dimension) label for a budget tape price of £2.99.
Game Overview
- The Plot: You control a character named Oscar, who has just purchased a massive mansion or castle. Upon moving in, he discovers it has been overrun by a demon named Grell and a swarm of monstrous, soul-draining apparitions. Your goal is to guide Oscar through the rooms, gather specific magical artifacts, and banish Grell back to the netherworld.
- Gameplay Structure: The game is viewed from an elevated side angle. Touching enemies drains Oscar’s “soul” (health) bar, which can be replenished by finding and drinking potions. Because it was a quick port from the ZX Spectrum, it is often described as having a very “Spectromatic” look (limited colour attributes per block) and minimal sound effects beyond standard walking and hit noises.
