Description

NBA Live 95 Mega Drive

NBA Live 95 for the Sega Mega Drive is the first installment in the long-running NBA Live series from EA Sports. Released in late 1994, it is highly regarded for its significant advancements over its predecessor, NBA Showdown ’94, introducing many features that would become staples of the franchise. The Mega Drive version is considered by some to be superior to the Super Nintendo version, with a higher screen resolution and smoother gameplay.
Gameplay features
  • Isometric perspective: The game was a “quantum leap forward” largely due to its new diagonal 30-degree court view, which provided a more expansive view of the action and was well-suited for the Mega Drive’s resolution.
  • Player control and animations: Player movements are fluid, with options for alley-oops, spectacular dunks, and a new “jump-pass” move to fool defenders. The gameplay is faster than previous EA basketball titles, resulting in more fast breaks.
  • Strategic depth: For those who prefer a more tactical game, NBA Live 95 includes a selection of 46 offensive plays and four defensive sets. You can also customize thirteen rules, including fatigue and injuries.
  • Multiplayer support: The game supports up to four players simultaneously with an EA multitap adapter, making for a chaotic and fun experience.
  • Season mode: A full or reduced season mode is available, complete with a battery-backed-up save feature to track user, team, and individual player statistics. The game features all 27 NBA teams from the 1994–95 season.
Notable differences from other versions
The Mega Drive version of NBA Live 95 has several key differences compared to its Super Nintendo counterpart:
  • Screen resolution: The Mega Drive version takes advantage of the system’s full 320×224 resolution, while the Super NES is limited to 256×224. This gives the court and players in the Mega Drive version a less “stretched” look.
  • Gameplay details: The Mega Drive version includes elements missing from the Super NES port, such as a player-controlled star indicator, more complete statistical tracking during a season, and more animated scenery.
  • Multiplayer: The Mega Drive supports up to four players with an adapter, while the Super NES version only supports two.
