The Battle Of Olympus NES
The Battle of Olympus for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is a challenging side-scrolling action-adventure game released in North America in 1990. Heavily inspired by Greek mythology, it is often compared to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link due to its 2D side-scrolling gameplay, towns, and non-linear structure.
Story
The game’s plot is a loose adaptation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
- Hero and heroines: The player takes the role of the Greek hero Orpheus, though you can name the character yourself. His lover, Helene, is bitten by a venomous serpent and dies, but is revealed to have been taken to the underworld by the god Hades.
- The quest: To rescue Helene, Orpheus must travel across the lands of ancient Greece and defeat a wide array of mythological beasts.
- Divine aid: Orpheus must also seek out the favour of the Olympian gods, beginning with Zeus, to receive the powerful weapons, armour, and items needed for his quest.
- Final confrontation: His journey culminates in a descent into Tartarus to face and defeat Hades himself.
