Description
Star Wars Battlefront II Platinum PSP
Star Wars Battlefront II Platinum (PSP) is the 2006 European rerelease of the 2005 third-person shooter video game for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The Platinum Edition is a budget-range title sold at a lower price point than the original version after it had sold a required number of copies.
Gameplay features
The PSP port of Star Wars: Battlefront II maintains many of the core elements from its console counterpart but with modifications to suit the handheld platform.
- Campaign: The game features several unique mini-campaigns in place of the longer console story mode. Players can join the Rebellion as a smuggler, become a mercenary for hire, or play as an Imperial sniper.
- Space combat and playable Jedi: Like the original, the PSP version includes space battles and the ability to play as powerful Jedi heroes and Sith villains.
- Exclusive modes: PSP-exclusive Challenge modes, like Imperial Enforcer, Rogue Assassin, and Rebel Raider, add unique mission-style gameplay.
- Galactic Conquest: The popular Galactic Conquest mode, where you manage fleets and conquer planets, is also included.
- Multiplayer: Supports up to four players in local cooperative or competitive multiplayer using Wi-Fi connectivity. Note that the official online servers for the game have been shut down.
Limitations of the PSP version
As a port for a much less powerful handheld console, the PSP version of Battlefront II had some notable compromises.
- Controls: Without a second analogue stick, aiming with the face buttons can feel awkward, and many players rely on the game’s aim-assist features. There are several control schemes to choose from, with the “Retro” option often preferred for its PC-like feel.
- Graphics and performance: The game has lower visual fidelity and a less stable frame rate than the PlayStation 2 or Xbox versions.
- Multiplayer: The multiplayer functionality is limited to local ad-hoc connections for up to four players, as the online servers are no longer operational.
