SPEEDBALL Master System

Speedball for the Sega Master System is a futuristic sports game originally released in 1988 for other platforms and ported to the Master System in 1991 (PAL regions). It is a single-screen action game featuring five-on-five indoor matches where teams battle to get the ball into the opponent’s goal.
Gameplay and features
  • Sporting combat: Gameplay combines elements of handball and ice hockey, with an emphasis on brutal tackling and violent play, in addition to scoring goals.
  • Power-ups and cheating: During matches, various tokens appear on the field. Power-ups can freeze the opposing team or increase your own team’s stats, while other tokens allow you to bribe the referee in the next match.
  • Single-player and multiplayer: While the single-player mode can be brief, the game features a more engaging two-player mode with a mini-league.
  • Graphical and performance differences: The Master System version features less advanced graphics than the 16-bit versions on other consoles. Passing is also more difficult due to the lack of a player radar.
  • Missing game modes: Unlike other ports of the game, the Master System version notably lacks a league mode.
