Description
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Master System
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Master System is a completely different game from the famous 16-bit Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version. Developed by Aspect and released in October 1992, this 8-bit platformer features entirely unique levels, distinct gameplay mechanics, and a unique plotline. It also marks the historic first appearance of Miles “Tails” Prower in the franchise, preceding the 16-bit version’s release by more than a month.
Key Game Features
- The Premise: Unlike the 16-bit version where Tails follows you as a playable sidekick, Dr. Robotnik has kidnapped Tails in this version. Sonic must race to save him.
- Unique Gimmicks: The game introduces level-specific vehicles. You can ride minecarts in the Under Ground Zone and pilot a hang glider in the Sky High Zone.
- Chaos Emeralds: The Chaos Emeralds are hidden directly inside Act 2 of the first five zones rather than in Special Stages.
- Two Endings: Collecting all six Chaos Emeralds unlocks the final Crystal Egg Zone to get the true, happy ending where Tails is saved. Finishing without them triggers a bittersweet ending.
- Zones: The game spans seven distinct zones: Under Ground, Sky High, Aqua Lake, Green Hills, Gimmick Mt., Scrambled Egg, and Crystal Egg.
