Description
Kikstart C64
Kikstart is a classic side-scrolling motorcycle trials game released for the Commodore 64 (C64) in 1985. Originally developed by Mr. Chip Software, it was re-released as a budget title by Mastertronic and is considered one of the era’s most playable games.
Gameplay
In Kikstart, you control a stunt motorcyclist navigating a series of obstacle courses. The goal is to complete the course in the fastest time possible without crashing.
- Controls: The joystick is used to accelerate, decelerate, perform a wheelie, and jump. Mastering these controls and judging the correct speed for each obstacle is key to success.
- Obstacles: The game features a variety of hazards that require different techniques to overcome. These include jumps over vehicles, water, and ramps, as well as navigating rough ground, barrels, and walls.
- Crashing: Making a mistake causes your rider to spectacularly somersault over the handlebars, which incurs a time penalty.
Features
- Single-player mode: Race against the clock to set your best time on each of the eight courses.
- Simultaneous two-player mode: This is a standout feature that sets Kikstart apart. Two players can compete side-by-side on a split screen, which adds an exciting competitive edge.
- Course selection: Players can choose any combination of three out of the eight available courses to create a custom mini-tournament.
- BBC Kick Start inspiration: The game is a well-known homage to the popular British motorcycle trials TV show Kick Start. It even includes a single-channel version of the TV show’s theme tune, “Be My Boogie Woogie Baby”.
Another great retro game available at Escapist Gamer – BMX Simulator (C64)
