Description
Tetris Manual Game Boy
The original Game Boy Tetris manual provides instructions on game modes (A-Type, B-Type, and 2-player) and controls. The manual explains how to start a game, navigate menus, and use special features like pausing and resetting the game.
Gameplay Instructions
- Move Blocks: Use the Control Pad to move the falling Tetriminos left and right.
- Rotate Blocks: The A Button typically rotates blocks clockwise, while the B Button rotates counterclockwise.
- Speed Up Fall: Pressing the Control Pad down speeds up the current block’s descent.
- Pause: Press the START Button during gameplay to pause the game.
- Reset: To reset the game and return to the title screen, simultaneously press the A, B, SELECT, and START buttons.
- Toggle “NEXT” Display: Press the SELECT Button during the game to hide or show the “NEXT” display, which previews the shape of the upcoming block. This adds an extra layer of difficulty for experienced players.
Game Modes
The manual outlines three primary ways to play:
- A-Type Game: This is the standard, endless game mode. The goal is to score as many points and clear as many lines as possible until the blocks reach the top of the screen. Players select the starting level (speed) on a scale of 0-9.
- B-Type Game: In this mode, the goal is to clear 25 lines. Players can adjust both the starting level and how high a pile of blocks begins on the screen.
- 2-Player Game: Using a Game Link cable, two players can compete against each other. Clearing multiple lines at once sends “garbage” lines to the opponent’s screen, making their game harder. The manual notes that this mode is only selectable if the cable is connected.
