Abandoned Places Amiga
Abandoned Places and its sequel, Abandoned Places 2, are Hungarian-developed dungeon-crawler role-playing games (RPGs) released for the Commodore Amiga. Inspired by classics like Dungeon Master, these games are known for their combination of classic grid-based dungeon exploration with a surprisingly large, explorable overworld.
Abandoned Places: A Time for Heroes (1992
- Gameplay: Players control a party of four heroes on a quest to save the kingdom of Kalynthia from the evil arch-mage Bronagh. The game features real-time, mouse-controlled combat in both subterranean dungeons and surface areas.
- Innovation: Unlike many pure dungeon crawlers of its time, Abandoned Places was praised for its extensive overworld sections, which included towns, NPCs, and wilderness travel, giving the game a greater sense of scope.
- Development: The game was created by ArtGame, a Hungarian development company. Its story was inspired by tabletop RPGs like Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
- Reception: Reviewers at the time appreciated the game’s ambition, size, and difficulty, but some were critical of its graphics, which were considered rudimentary.
Another great retro game available at Escapist Gamer – Heimdall (Amiga)
