Description
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition PSP
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a port of the popular street-racing game, featuring open-world gameplay across three detailed cities. Developed by Rockstar Leeds, this version retains the core experience of the console editions but includes some differences due to the hardware limitations of the PSP. The PSP version was released in North America on June 28, 2005.
Key features
- Cities: Race through open-world recreations of Detroit, San Diego, and Atlanta, all adapted from the console version.
- Customization: Perform extensive customization on licensed cars, bikes, and trucks using real-world parts for rims, body kits, and performance upgrades, a key feature of the DUB Edition name.
- Special abilities: Activate special driving skills during races, including Zone (bullet-time for precision handling), Agro (knocks aside traffic), and Roar (a sonic wave to clear other vehicles).
- Multiplayer: Compete wirelessly against up to five other players via the PSP’s Wi-Fi functionality in various race modes.
- Licensed Soundtrack: Enjoy a large and varied soundtrack featuring licensed hip-hop, rock, and electronic artists.
- Gameplay Modes:
- Career: Play through the main story mode to unlock new cities, vehicles, and races.
- Arcade: Practice your driving skills on different tracks and in various race types.
- Cruise: Explore the cities at your leisure without the pressure of a race.
Differences from console versions
The PSP port is an impressive technical achievement but makes some compromises compared to its PlayStation 2 and Xbox counterparts.
- No Remix content: The PSP version is based on the original DUB Edition and does not include the extra content found in the later Remix version of the console game, such as the Tokyo city map and additional cars.
- Loading times: Load times for accessing cities and garages are noticeably longer on the PSP.
- Performance: The PSP version has a lower, less consistent frame rate and reduced motion blur effects, which can make it feel slower.
- Graphics and features:
- The game lacks vehicle damage modeling.
- Some paint job options, like Pearlescent and Color Shift, are not included.
- The Race Editor, which allows players to create custom tracks, was omitted.
- The PSP version does include five exclusive licensed music tracks.
