NASCAR PSP

The only official NASCAR game released for the Sony PSP was NASCAR 07. It was developed by Exient Entertainment and published by EA Sports in 2006. For the North American market, the game is simply titled NASCAR.

It was ported to the PSP from the console version released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

About the game

Racing series: The game includes several NASCAR series, including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR Busch Series, and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.
Game modes: Modes include “Race Now” to jump straight into a race, “SpeedZone” for practicing driving skills, and a career mode called “Fight to the Top”. The career mode requires you to work your way up from the lower series to reach the Nextel Cup.
Mid-race save: A “mid-race save” feature allows you to pause and save your progress, which is useful for longer races.
Gameplay features: The game uses an “adrenaline meter” that boosts your skills as you race well. It also includes a “Rewind” feature, which uses skill points to reverse a few seconds of racing action to correct a mistake.
Multiplayer: The game offers wireless multiplayer for up to four players in a single race or season, though everyone must have their own copy of the game.

Reviews and player experience

Port quality: The PSP version was considered a solid and full-featured port of the console game, maintaining a good frame rate with a full field of 43 cars. Some reviewers, however, felt the analog controls were not precise enough.
Career mode: IGN noted that the “Fight to the Top” career mode could be tedious, with some aspects feeling clunky or cumbersome.
Graphics and sound: The graphics were considered smooth for the system, though textures could be poor. The sound was noted as realistic, especially when racing in a pack.
Rival AI: Players reported that the AI drivers are very aggressive and will retaliate if you bump into them.
