Tetris Game Boy
Tetris for the Game Boy is a hugely influential puzzle video game, developed and published by Nintendo in 1989. It is often credited with making both the Tetris franchise and the Game Boy itself a global phenomenon, as it was bundled with the handheld console in North America and Europe.Â
Gameplay and features:
The core gameplay of the Game Boy version follows the standard Tetris formula, but also includes key features that would become staples of the series.Â
- Objective:Â The player must manipulate falling Tetrimino blocks to form complete horizontal lines. Completed lines disappear, and the player earns points. The game ends if the stack of blocks reaches the top of the screen.
- Game A and Game B modes:
- Game AÂ is an endless mode, with the goal being to play for as long as possible.
- Game BÂ is a challenge mode where the player starts with a partially filled well and must clear 25 lines as quickly as possible.
- 2-Player versus mode: This was the first widely distributed Tetris game to feature a competitive multiplayer mode. Two players could connect their Game Boys using a Game Link Cable. Clearing multiple lines at once would send incomplete “garbage” blocks to your opponent’s screen, raising their stack and making it more difficult for them.
- Level and speed:Â The game offers 20 progressive skill levels. As the level increases, the blocks fall faster, and the player is awarded more points.
