  • This is a used Sharp Portable Minidisc Player MD-MT170
  • I have tested this and it works well, tested via mains and battery.
  • Battery charges via mains ok.
  • Recorded a track via PC ok
  • When closing the minidisc player it doesn’t automatically close so you have to move the latch to manually to lock the lid in place
  • It has some scratches and scuffs previous use
  • No other accessories included

The Sharp MD-MT170 is a classic, highly regarded portable MiniDisc recorder and player originally released by Sharp in the early 2000s. Known for its exceptionally sturdy, metallic “chunky” build quality and physical tactile feedback, it remains a popular target for vintage audio enthusiasts and collectors.
Key Technical Specifications
  • Audio Features: Features Sharp’s signature 3-mode digital X-Bass system for enhanced low-end frequency responses. It operates on standard ATRAC audio compression.
  • MDLP Support: Supports MiniDisc Long Play (MDLP) formats, enabling standard 80-minute MiniDiscs to record up to 160 minutes in LP2 mode or 320 minutes in LP4 mode. 
  • Shock Protection: Outfitted with a 40-second anti-shock memory buffer to prevent playback skipping during movement.
  • Connectivity & I/O: Includes a dedicated 3.5mm headphone output, a digital/optical Line-In port for bit-perfect recording, and a 5V DC power jack. Note: Unlike step-up models, the MT170 generally does not feature a dedicated microphone input or an LCD inline remote control port.
  • Recording Control: Offers manual and automatic digital recording level controls that can be adjusted on-the-fly while recording is actively underway.
