Description
Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96 Mega Drive
Micro Machines: Turbo Tournament ’96 is an enhanced, PAL-exclusive version of Micro Machines 2 for the Sega Mega Drive. Released by Codemasters in late 1995, it was never released in North America, where the console was known as the Genesis.
This version builds on the second game by adding new tracks and key features that were previously exclusive to the MS-DOS version.
Gameplay features
- J-Cart multiplayer: As with Micro Machines 2, the game uses Codemasters’ J-Cart technology, which has two extra controller ports built directly into the game cartridge. This allows for four players to plug into the cartridge without an adapter. With controller-sharing, up to eight players can race at once.
- Track construction kit: A track editor is included, which allows players to design, create, and save their own courses using the cartridge’s NVR memory chip.
- More courses: The game features over 60 new and updated tracks, with new settings like a gymnasium, campsite, and science lab.
- New modes and content: The updated version adds new single-player and multiplayer tournament modes, new playable characters, and new vehicle types, such as go-karts and jets.
- Environmental hazards: Several courses feature weather conditions like wind, rain, and lightning, which add to the challenge.
